Faculty/Academic Administrative Positions

The University of South Carolina Upstate is a comprehensive public university and a senior institution of the University of South Carolina. USC Upstate is located between Charlotte and Atlanta along the I-85 corridor, one of the fastest growing business and high-tech regions of the country. The University has an enrollment of over 5,000 and includes accredited professional Schools of Nursing and Education, the accredited College of Business and Economics as well as the College of Arts and Sciences.

Positions listed are either tenure-track or non-tenure-track (Instructor) on a nine month basis unless specified otherwise. Candidates must have earned doctorates or other degrees as specified. ABD candidates with planned completion dates at least 15 days prior to identified start date may also be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and advising, as well as a record of scholarship and service. Instructors are hired on a nine month contractual basis subject to annual renewal. They will have responsibilities equivalent to five teaching units and must have at least a master's degree with 18 hours in the discipline and other qualifications as noted. All positions are subject to funding.

The University of South Carolina Upstate invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.  The Dean is the chief administrative officer and academic leader of the College.  Reporting to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Dean leads a College comprised of two divisions (Natural Sciences and Engineering as well as Mathematics and Computer Sciences), six departments (History, Political Science, Philosophy, and American Studies; Sociology, Criminal Justice and Women’s Studies; Informatics; Fine Arts and Communication Studies;  Languages, Literature and Composition; Psychology) and three centers (Interdisciplinary Studies, Nonprofit Leadership, and Women’s and Gender Studies).

The University of South Carolina Upstate is a comprehensive public university and senior institution of the University of South Carolina.  Set on 300 acres in Spartanburg, S.C. at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, USC Upstate serves the needs of surrounding cities and their connecting corridors and populations.  The University, with an enrollment of over 5,000 students, consists of the College of Arts and Sciences and three professional schools in business, education, and nursing.  

The successful candidate should have an earned doctorate from an accredited institution and qualify as a full professor in the College.  In addition, candidates should have a minimum of  three years of experience at the department head, division head or center director level or above with  five years preferred; a record of distinguished teaching and scholarship; demonstrated commitment to collegiality; an ability to attract external funding; an ability to maintain and strengthen ties with the community; demonstrated commitment to diversity; and strong interpersonal and communications skills.

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Engineering Technology Management with teaching research, and service expectations.   Positions are nine-month.

Required:  M.S. in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology Management or related field with a minimum of 18 hours of appropriate graduate coursework by the time of appointment.  Candidates must have some industrial experience.  Ph.D. required by time of appointment for tenure-track assistant professor position.

Preferred: Ph.D in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology Management or related field with two years of industrial experience and prior teaching experience.  Prior traditional and online teaching, course and curriculum development ABET accreditation, and program coordination experience are highly desirable.  Expertise in one or more of the following areas is desirable:  cost analysis, work analysis, systems decision modeling, quality management, project management, team management.  Evidence of excellence in teaching, scholarship and service is desirable.

The University of South Carolina Upstate invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Mary Black School of Nursing.  Reporting to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Dean is the chief administrative officer and academic leader of the School.  The School of Nursing is the largest single degree major at USC Upstate and one of the Southeast‘s most highly regarded nursing institutions that offers a four-year degree program. The school is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The School is the largest baccalaureate nursing program and the largest RN-BSN nursing program in South Carolina with a current enrollment of more than 525 nursing students and 42 full-time faculty.

Preference will be given to candidates who have a minimum of five years administrative experience in higher education in nursing. Candidates with strong communications skills, demonstrated ability to attract external funding, expertise in budget management, a commitment to diversity and experience developing graduate programs in nursing will be given special consideration.
