A Welcome From the Office of the Dean
Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina Upstate! The College is the largest academic unit on campus, featuring some 20 majors in various disciplines and including several centers and programs. The links on either side of this page will guide you to various current events and initiatives, as well as the College’s mission and vision statements, strategic plan, and academic information.
The College of Arts and Sciences is truly an exciting place to be for a number of reasons.
First, we have an outstanding faculty and staff who are committed to teaching and student services. Not only do the faculty engage students in the classroom, but they also provide academic and personal advising and mentoring outside of class. They are committed to their own fields of study, having earned the highest degrees in their disciplines, and are active scholars, professionals, and community contributors in their own right.
Secondly, our academic programs are first rate, and represent an extraordinary range of courses, special topics, and other educational opportunities. Students have the opportunity to learn in carefully constructed learning environments, whether actual or virtual settings. In addition, studetns have the opportunity to study with faculty who are exceptional teachers and who are dedicated to making sure that students are provided with outstanding instruction and guidance. Our General Education program provides an outstanding foundation that our various majors and minors build upon to help students become knowledgeable and productive citizens in an ever-changing world.
Thirdly, our faculty and students are actively engaged in the metropolitan community through a number of internships, service-learning projects, volunteerism, and other forms of outreach. These activities support our metropolitan mission, and they ensure close ties between the campus and greater university community.
