Center for Women’s and Gender Studies
The Center for Women’s and Gender Studies at USC Upstate serves students, faculty, staff, and community members through academic courses and co-curricular programming. As part of the USC Upstate commitment to recognizing and supporting diversity efforts on campus, the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (CWGS) co-sponsors several exciting campus events. Past events include an international film series, a book club, and multiple academic conferences on topics ranging from leadership and negotiation skills to contemporary media culture and innovative theories of gender and sexuality.
Our website features student achievements, annual awards, affiliate faculty bios, student organizations, information for students interested in attending graduate school in WGS, a calendar of upcoming events and an archive of past events. Get to know us better and get involved!
The Center for Women’s and Gender Studies invites all student organizations (clubs, sororities, or political groups) with an interest in gender studies to use the Center for a meeting space. Located in CASB 120, the Center provides a comfortable and relaxing lounge for discussions or personal reading time, along with a growing library of books and current magazine subscriptions to alternative media outlets such as Ms., Bust, The Advocate, and Feminist Teacher.
Hours for the CWGS lounge vary from semester to semester depending on student worker availability, so please check for updated hours on the door of CASB 120 or call Dr. Johnson at 503-5724. If you are interested in working for CWGS through the work-study program (paid) or on a volunteer basis (unpaid), or if you have suggestions or questions about minoring in Women’s and Gender Studies at USC Upstate, fill out our online form.
