Rachel Snow is an Associate Professor of Art History at the University of South Carolina Upstate. She received her PhD from the City University of New York Graduate Center in 2006. She specializes in the History of Photography and wrote her dissertation Incidental Tourists on travel books that are illustrated with tourists’ own vernacular snapshots.
Her publications include: “Postscript to a Postcard,” published in Afterimage (May 2002) and “A Second Look,” also published in Afterimage (July/August 2002) and an essay in The Journal of American Culture in March of 2008 that considers how photography and tourism relate to issues of American class identity and conspicuous consumption.
She teaches Women and Art every Spring semester (SATH 301) and has hosted a CGWS panel on Women in Photography featuring original research projects by USC Upstate students.
