Teach DiversityDSCLA

The website teachdiversity.org was created by the Fall 2006 Diversity Leadership Academy Capstone Group "Next Generation" and the School of Education at the University of South Carolina Upstate. By identifying resources for teaching and managing diversity in the classroom, the website seeks to help educators prepare the next generation to deal positively with the opportunities and challenges that diversity affords.

In creating this website, the “Next Generation” acknowledges that teaching and managing diversity is far more than a list of resources.  It is a process that is ongoing and dynamic.  As Sonia Nieto says in Affirming Diversity (Fourth Edition), “The sensitivity and understanding teachers show their students are more crucial in promoting student learning than the facts and figures they may know about different ethnic and cultural groups.”

"The Next Generation" believes, however, that teachers will benefit from having easy access to resources on diversity and on inclusion in the classroom, especially resources which have been evaluated for their quality. teachdiversity.org. is produced for that purpose. "The Next Generation" believes, as well, that every generation has the responsibility to reach back and help the next generation.
