Located just 39 miles southwest of the national capital of Mexico City, La Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEM) is located in the Mexican state that gave the country its name. With a student population in excess of 20,000 in undergraduate degree programs , the university offers a wide variety of study options in numerous faculties located within the city of Toluca. The university was originally founded in 1828 and took its current name in 1956.
The city of Toluca is home to over 500,000 inhabitants and has history dating back to Pre-Columbian days. Its name was given by the Aztecs, and the first Spanish community was established in 1530. Today, Toluca is located in the economic center of Mexico and has become an important city because of its industries and infrastructure. It is served by its own international airport.
