Advising Toolbox

Academic advising is a significant responsibility of both faculty and student support personnel. It addresses students’ entire undergraduate experience. Advisement is the responsibility of both the student and the academic advisor and is essential to successful progress towards and completion of a degree.

The Goals of Academic Advisors:

  • To assist students in a comprehensive educational plan, including selection of courses, scheduling classes and evaluating progress toward earning a degree.
  • To assist students with career and major exploration.
  • To provide accurate information regarding curriculum requirements and university policies, procedures and requirements.
  • To inform students of campus resources, support services and educational opportunities.
  • To promote student self-reliance, decision making and critical thinking.
  • To understand, respect and respond to individual student advising needs.
