Graduation and the Technology Transition
Congratulations on graduating from the University of South Carolina Upstate! Before or after you graduate, please read this list and take the appropriate actions to make sure your transition from USC Upstate is as smooth as possible.
Email
Your Student Email (Live@edu) address will remain active for life after you graduate. If you do not graduate, your account will be disabled when you are no longer taking classes.
If you are unable to continue using your USC Upstate email account, you have a few options. You can setup email forwarding. This will send any emails sent to your USC Upstate account to any account you specify. Make sure you let people in your address book know of your new (or forwarding) address.
Also, any email that is still saved on your USC Upstate account will not automatically be forwarded. You will need to manually forward any messages you wish to keep to your new email address.
** For help in forwarding your account, please contact the USC Upstate Help Desk at (864) 503-5257.
Blackboard
Since Blackboard is based at USC Columbia, you will have access to Blackboard as long as your Columbia network username is active. For undergraduates, this is one year following graduation. For graduates, this is two years following graduation.
VIP
You will continue to have access to VIP after graduation (there is no time limit). You will be able to check grades, financial information, transcript requests and other personal information.
Wireless Access
After you graduate you will no longer be considered a student and not be granted access to the uscupstate.edu wireless network on the Spartanburg campus.
Network Storage
You should back up any information you have saved to any network drive. You can do this by saving either to your hard drive, a flash drive or CD-R. You can also email them to an email address.
Student Education Discounts
As a student, you are able to get education discounts on a variety of software and computer equipment (through selected companies). After graduating, you will no longer be able to receive these discounts.
Loaner Computers
All borrowed laptops must be returned and outstanding fines paid in full before leaving the University. If the laptop is not returned it will be reported as stolen to University Police. Failure to pay fines could result in a hold being placed on your official records, which could cause a delay in process paperwork for graduation. Failure to pay could also mean information being sent to a collection agency.
Please feel free to contact the USC Upstate Help Desk at (864) 503-5257 to ease your transition from the University of South Carolina Upstate to future endeavors!
