Smiles and Kisses:
Repairing mother-infant breaches and risk for serious child abuse and neglect
Thursday, March 20th
3:00 - 4:30 p.m.
$15 registration fee/$10 student registration fee
In this presentation, Dr. Crittenden alerts professionals to consider the varied functions of smiles and kisses and to note occasions when there are discrepancies between these behaviors and their context. For example, children in hospitals should be unhappy, not rays of sunshine. Such discrepancies should signal the need for further investigation. The CARE-Index assessment will be offered as one observational method to identify this and other forms of risk.
