Institutional Research, Assessment, and Planning
The Office of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Planning has responsibility for data collection and the analysis, distribution, and presentation of this information for use in planning, assessment, decision-making and policy formation at the University.
Ensuring timeliness and accuracy, the Office also serves as the central repository for statistical information regarding the University and responds to information requests from a broad spectrum of internal and external clients. Other major functions include assisting University personnel with research and assessment methodology, evaluation, and analysis, and complying with state- and federally-mandated reporting requirements.

Sheryl leads the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Planning, as well as the other units within the Division of Administrative and Business Affairs. As part of the Chancellor’s Cabinet, she works with the University community and outside agencies to develop and implement a variety of initiatives including strategic planning; financial, human, and physical resources assessments; infrastructure analyses; and University accreditations.
Sam Bingham—Director, Institutional Research

Sam has significant experience with research design and statistical analysis which provides the necessary foundation for his functions at the University. Sam is responsible for the creation of data sets and the development, compilation, and accurate reporting of institutional information to internal and external constituencies, including Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), SC Commission on Higher Education (SC CHE), Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and others.

In addition to synthesizing and preparing reports of University data sets, Brian supports the Academic Program Assessment, General Education Assessment, and Administrative Area Assessment endeavors of the University by developing, administering, and analyzing a variety of standardized tests, surveys, and other assessment instruments as well as working with units to improve their internal assessment processes.

Jeanette provides significant administrative support for the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Planning, manages the budgets for the Division of Planning and Organizational Development, coordinates trainings for USC Upstate, and develops and presents workshops on a variety of the University’s financial policies and procedures. Jeanette is also the University’s representative and administrative support for South Carolina’s Quality Forum.
