Margaret has a Master's degree in education with a concentration in school psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Science degree from Guilford College. She grew up in nearby Shelby, NC.
Prior to making her home at USC Upstate, Margaret taught Montessori preschool, taught for TIP at Duke University, and worked for Head Start, Project Autism, and the North Carolina Education Research Council. She enjoys photography, needlework, swimming, and spending time with her niece and nephew.

Kathy completed her M.A. and Ph.D.
programs in American Studies at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. A native of Savannah, Georgia, she grew up
in Alexandria, Virginia, and attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg,
where she earned a B.A. in American Studies. After graduation, Kathy worked as an editorial assistant for the journal
BioScience for a year before returning to graduate school. She has taught as an adjunct professor of American history and history
of the new South at Wofford College and Converse College. For almost eleven years, Kathy was director
of academic success at Converse, teaching and coordinating First Year
Experience classes, counseling students, and providing disability services. She taught two sections of freshman
composition at the University of South Carolina Upstate in the fall semester of 2010,
before becoming Student Services Coordinator in Disability Services. Kathy and her husband Shep have two
daughters, Kelley (27) and Meredith (24), as well as a beagle named Gidget. Kathy’s interests include singing, listening
to jazz and soul music, gardening, interior design, spending time at Litchfield
Beach, and traveling.
