Robert E. McDonald, Jr., M.D.
Robert E. McDonald, Jr., M.D., serves as Laboratory Director of USC Upstate Health Services. He received his undergraduate degree from The University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1978. He graduated from The University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences in Memphis in 1984. He completed his residency at the Spartanburg Family Medicine Residency Program and then returned to Knoxville, TN where he practiced family medicine for fourteen years. He joined the faculty of Spartanburg Family Medicine Residency Program in 2001 and has completed a faculty development fellowship in family medicine at the University of North Carolina in 2004.
Dr. McDonald has been Associate Director of Spartanburg Family Medicine Residency Program since 2004, and was named Program Director in the summer of 2011. He is also the Laboratory Director for the Center for Family Medicine. He served as Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine for a two-year term, from 2009-2011, as well as President of Spartanburg County Medical Society in 2011. He is also the Medical Director for Regional Call Center Services.
