Mu Rho Chapter
Welcome to the Mu Rho Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Mu Rho Chapter was chartered at the University of South Carolina Upstate, Sunday, March 8, 1992. The Mu Rho Chapter (303) is a member of Region 7 of Sigma Theta Tau International.
In 2009, Mu Rho Chapter received the Chapter Key award in which STTI chapters are honored for excellence in chapter-related activities such as:
- Membership recruitment and retention
- Publicity and programming
- Professional and leadership development
- Local, national and international collaboration
Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) was the inspiration of six nurses from theUniversity of Indiana in 1922. The words that were chosen to symbolically represent the ideal of nursing came from the Greek work of Storgέ, Tharsos and Timέ – love, courage, and honor – SigmaTheta Tau. The mission of this honor society is to support the learning, knowledge and professional development of nurses committed to making a difference in health worldwide. The vision is to lead change to improve the health of the world’s population though knowledge, scholarship, service and learning.
The purposes of SigmaTheta Tau International are to:
- Recognize superior achievement.
- Recognize the development of leadership qualities.
- Foster high professional standards.
- Encourage creative work.
- Strengthen commitment to the ideals and purposes of the profession.
