The Burroughs Child Development Center provides quality child care to University students, faculty and staff, in addition to providing students the opportunity to observe and work with children. Students from the School of Education, the Mary Black School of Nursing, the Teaching Fellows program, and the psychology department gain valuable observation lab and hands-on classroom experience at the Center.
Onsite Services
Since the Burroughs Child Development Center is housed on the USC Upstate campus, we have access to on-site services such as the School of Education, Health Services, University Police, Media Services, Information Technology and Services, and Dining Services. Additionally, the location allows the children to participate in numerous on-campus activities such as trick-or-treating at Halloween and the Angel Tree program at Christmas.
Hours of Operation
The Center is open five days a week from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. We observe the University holiday schedule as well as other selected dates. Training sessions may be coordinated with student holidays.
Fees
The Center offers full- and part-time child care rates for children three months to four years old. ABC vouchers are accepted, and there are several reduced fee slots available for Pell Grant recipients. Breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks are included in the fees.
Staff
The staff is comprised of four lead teachers, three teacher assistants and one part-time teacher assistant. All Center teachers are certified in early childhood education, and two hold Master's degrees in early childhood education. The staff plans and implements developmentally appropriate curriculum consistsing of hands-on activities and a learning-rich environment that allows children to develop at their own pace.
Accreditation
The Center is licensed by the South Carolina Department of Social Services and is a member of the South Carolina Advocates for Better Care Programs. The Center is accredited by The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation's largest and most widely recognized accreditation system for early childhood schools and child care centers.
