I completed my bachelor’s degree in English at USC Upstate in 2019 as a nontraditional student seeking a second career. With much invaluable guidance from my advisor and instructors, I went through an assistantship and an internship, as well as working in the Writing Center on campus.
My internship at Hub City Writers Project put me in touch with the community and what is needed in the current world of publishing and literature. I went on to complete a graduate certificate in publishing from the Denver Publishing Institute. I was fortunate to then achieve my goal of becoming a freelance editor.
My business has flourished with continued support from the network that came with attending courses, developing relationships, and working on and off campus. The value of being able to work from home and manage my time through entrepreneurship has allowed me to be present with my young daughter, which is the most precious thing I could ask for.
Get in the spotlight.
Each month, we spotlight one of our alumni to learn about their experiences since graduation. Through their stories, often in their own words, we discover the impact Upstate has made on their journeys.
