USC Upstate rolled out the welcome mat Friday with our annual Move Up Day as a record breaking number of students, 725 freshman and 788 transfer students, now call Upstate home. The campus was abuzz with activity as new students and their families moved into newly upgraded dormitories designed to enhance the residential experience.
“Our housing and residential life team has worked tirelessly to ensure that every detail is perfect for our students,” said Bennie Harris, Ph.D., chancellor of USC Upstate. “Our residential advisors, volunteers, families, and vendors have been exceptional in making today a smooth process for everyone. Seeing our campus come alive with the energy of new and returning students is infectious.”
USC Upstate resident advisors, faculty and staff provided enthusiastic support to arriving newcomers, helping them navigate their new home and ensuring a smooth transition.
As the school year begins, USC Upstate continues to build on its reputation for delivering an exceptional college experience. That includes dormitory upgrades, such as updated laundry rooms and a new room access system that requires students to swipe their Carolina Card for entry.
“I am proud of the improvements we’ve made to our facilities, which reflect our commitment to providing a top-notch living experience,” said Tierney Bates, vice chancellor for Student Affairs. “Not only do the Magnolia and Palmetto Houses support our Spartans in thriving individually, but they also foster opportunities for students to connect and make new friends.”
USC Upstate also provides multiple safety measures for students, including brightly lit parking lots, security cameras, emergency phones, and 24-hour University Police patrols.
New student Calvin Johnson expressed his excitement about joining the Upstate community, noting, “It is close to my childhood home, so I can visit my family while balancing the ability to advance my skills in digital marketing and graphic design. The beautiful campus and technology resources initially made me want to apply. I look forward to making new memories and engaging with my professors this semester.”
The day concluded with The Big Green Welcome Kickoff, featuring laser tag, glow mini golf, a headphone disco, and other festivities.
