International Student Services

The Center for International Studies is a “home away from home” for international students and scholars. Our Office provides advising and support services regarding visa, immigration regulations, and benefits related to F-1 and J-1 nonimmigrant visa categories. We assist new students and scholars with pre-arrival preparations, finding suitable housing, transportation from GSP airport, orientation, and a variety of programs and events throughout the year. Our programs are designed to facilitate transition into USC Upstate community, cultural immersion and exchange.

Resources for International Students

You’ll find all the information you need before and after you arrive to Spartanburg in our resource guide. Use this step-by-step checklist to learn how to prepare and submit important documents, set up your account, arrange travel and housing, make tuition payments, and more.

Once you arrive on campus, download the Additional Resource Guide to help you with tasks such as setting up a US phone plan and bank account, applying for a Social Security number, and more.

It is your responsibility to maintain your visa status and the status of your dependents. Download the Staying in Status Guide to learn the basic steps required to maintain your F-1 visa.

Events and Trips

The Center for International Studies sponsors several on-campus events and off-campus trips for our Global Spartans each year. The goal of our on-campus events is to bring different cultures to campus and create a sense of global community. All Global Spartans are welcome at these events. Our off-campus trips aim to show our international students more of the Upstate and the Southeast. Take a look at some of our recent events and trips!
