Our Mission
The Center for International Studies uses the term “Global Spartans” to describe members of our campus community that are globally minded and have expanded their worldview beyond their local area. In an increasingly globalized society, our mission is to create a campus full of Global Spartans. By providing support systems for our international students, creating opportunities for US students to study abroad, and bringing cultural events to our campus, we hope to create an inclusive community that values cultural diversity and approaches differences with respect and curiosity.
Who is a Global Spartan?
International Students
If you are a J-1 or F-1 visa holder, you will be automatically added to our email list. This community will be your best resource for meeting other international students, exploring the Southeast region of the United States, and adapting to US culture and campus life. If you are an international student under a different visa or residency status, email international@uscupstate.edu and ask to be included in the Global Spartans email list, so you can receive information about events and programs for international students.
Global Education Participants
If you are interested in foreign or domestic academic travel programs, email studyabroad@uscupstate.edu or visit the CIS office to set up a meeting with a Global Education Advisor. Our accessible and affordable program offerings include faculty-led short-term courses, semester long exchange programs, and yearlong dual-degree programs.
Globally Minded Students
If you are an undergraduate or graduate student from the US that is interested in learning a foreign language, getting involved in cultural clubs and organizations, or discussing other global topics and course work, you are a Global Spartan. Email international@uscupstate.edu and ask to be included in the Global Spartans email list. Learn more about how you can become a Global Spartan by studying abroad.
Friends of Global Spartans
If you are a faculty or staff member dedicated to empowering international students, would like to participate in cultural events on campus, and are willing to advocate for an inclusive global campus community, consider joining the “Friends of Global Spartans” program.
