Becca Fox’s journey at USC Upstate began when she 14 years old. As part
of the Scholars Academy program, which brings Spartanburg County high school students to Upstate for college courses, Fox spent four years immersed in the academic life of campus.
By the time she graduated, her college decision was easy.
“I had already developed so many friendships with real college students but also so many relationships with professors and faculty who took the time to mentor me,” Fox says. “Why go anywhere else, especially if I want to give back to the area?”
Helping her community has always been central to Fox’s goals.
As the community engagement and foundation manager at ScanSource, she sets up volunteer opportunities for company employees across the U.S., develops partnerships with local schools, and helps the foundation board and president execute the grant program.
She credits her time at Upstate with setting her on her career path. Fox majored in communication with a focus on public relations but also did minors in nonprofit administration and political science. In addition to volunteering while a student, she served as a chancellor’s ambassador and a teaching assistant.
The confidence and communication skills Fox gained from her experiences serve her well today in her dream job. “It feels good to give back and to help others and also be able to meet new people and gain new perspectives from them and learn from them and help solve problems with them.”
