The University of South Carolina Upstate is starting the 2026-27 academic year with strong enrollment growth, welcoming 5,442 students to campus this fall — an increase of 7.7% over last year.
The university saw growth among both undergraduate and graduate students, with particularly strong gains among continuing students and those pursuing graduate degrees.
Undergraduate enrollment increased 6.9%, from 4,647 students in fall 2025 to 4,966 this fall. Graduate enrollment grew 17%, increasing from 407 students last year to 476 students in fall 2026.
“This growth demonstrates the continued demand for a USC Upstate education and the university’s role in preparing students to meet the needs of the Upstate and beyond,” said Donette Stewart, vice chancellor for enrollment services and director of admissions.
USC Upstate welcomed 1,757 new degree-seeking students this fall, including 844 first-time-in-college students and 913 transfer and readmitted students. The university also saw a 9.7% increase in continuing undergraduate students, growing from 2,600 last fall to 2,853 this fall.
The university’s growth extends beyond traditional degree-seeking students. High school dual-enrollment and non-degree-seeking students increased 26.6%, from 271 students in fall 2025 to 343 students this fall. Overall, new non-degree-seeking enrollment increased 25.4%.
Graduate enrollment also experienced significant gains. New graduate degree-seeking enrollment increased 13.4%, while the number of continuing graduate students increased 36.5%, from 197 students last fall to 269 students this fall.
The university’s continued enrollment growth comes alongside an increase in the number of students completing their degrees. USC Upstate awarded 1,347 degrees, an increase of 6.8% over the previous year, preparing more graduates to enter the workforce or continue their education.
This fall’s enrollment also includes 369 Palmetto College students and 102 international students. In addition, 106 students are enrolled through RisePoint, following the launch of 10 new online programs through the partnership.
The fall enrollment numbers reflect continued interest in USC Upstate’s academic offerings and the university’s growing role in providing accessible, career-focused education throughout the Upstate.
With new and expanded academic programs, experiential learning opportunities and partnerships with regional employers and organizations, USC Upstate continues to prepare students for careers and graduate education while contributing to the workforce and communities of the region.
