Since graduating from USC Upstate in 1996 with a degree in business administration, Gwen Stevenson’s career has been working with agencies focused on serving children. She worked for the South Carolina Department of Social Services for 15 years.
In her last role with SCDSS she served as the child welfare services supervisor. She was then granted the opportunity to serve in the position of county director for the Cass Elias McCarter Guardian ad Litem Program in Chester and Fairfield counties. She held that position for over 12 years.
And in October 2025 Gwen was promoted to the role of state division director of the Cass Elias McCarter Guardian ad Litem Program.
Gwen is proud graduate of the University of South Carolina Upstate.
She believes her time at the University being a part of the Campus Activity Board, Gospel Choir, African American Association and the Xi Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, along with working for the Upward Bound program as a tutor and summer counselor, prepared her for the career she has been blessed with for over 27 years.
In her career she has worked alongside several Upstate graduates and enjoys sharing their experiences from their time at Upstate.
Gwen is excited about what the future holds in her new role as a state director. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. The people who keep her grounded and inspired.
