At the end of each semester, we hold a commencement ceremony to honor students who have recently graduated or will graduate soon. This means they have completed all the requirements of their degree program and are ready to take the next step in their academic or professional journeys. Each degree candidate is recognized by name and congratulated by the dean of their college or school.
Bag Policy
For safety and efficiency, we recommend entering the ceremony without a bag. If necessary, guests are permitted to bring in a purse or bag that will be subject to inspection before entry.
USC Upstate security personnel reserve the right to deny entry to any bag or item that is deemed unsafe for admission. Guests who do not follow security screening policies or decline to be inspected may be denied entry.
Bag Policy Prohibited Items
- Alcohol
- Artificial noise makers and Selfie Sticks
- Backpacks
- Balloons
- Canes, chains, or sticks (non-medical use canes)
- Cans, glass, or metal containers
- Coolers (unless for medical supplies)
- Costume masks
- Tobacco items, E-cigarettes and vapes
- Fireworks or any explosive
- Folding chairs (camping chairs, beach chairs, lounge chairs, etc.)
- Illegal drugs
- Laser pointers
- Pets (except service animals)
- Large golf or non-telescopic umbrellas
- Weapons of any description, including knives and firearms (even with a permit)
- Signs, banners, flags, or any items obstructing views or posing security risks
- Other items deemed by Event Security to pose safety risks or diminish event enjoyment for other guests.

The Senior Legacy Fund
The Senior Legacy Fund is a USC Upstate tradition that allows graduating seniors to leave a lasting impact on campus. By contributing a symbolic gift in the amount of your graduation year ($20.26), you support meaningful campus projects and enhance the student experience for future Spartans.
As a thank-you, the USC Upstate Alumni Association will provide an official alumni medallion to all participants.
This medallion, worn proudly during graduation, can be picked up at Grad Fair, in the Advancement Office, or mailed upon request.
