Chancellor Bennie L. Harris, Ph.D., has been named the recipient of the 2024 Sherman College of Chiropractic Community Champion Award.
The Community Champion Award recognizes the leadership of an individual, service provider, educator, or community-minded group demonstrating exemplary efforts in a project advancing Sherman College, as announced in a press release.
Upstate’s pre-chiropractic progam is a collaboration between the two schools that allows Upstate students to receive specialized instruction from Sherman faculty. “Furthermore, Sherman College eagerly anticipates collaborating with Upstate’s athletic department to cultivate a vibrant educational setting and promote chiropractic care through Sherman interns and the chiropractic center faculty,” said Sherman President Dr. Jack Bourla, Ph.D. “Together, we are committed to advancing mutual goals of academic excellence and community enrichment.”
Dr. Harris became the fifth chancellor of the University of South Carolina Upstate on July 1, 2021. A native of the Mississippi Delta farming community of Deeson, Chancellor Harris is deeply committed to inspiring and developing young people to change the world through higher education.
With a background in industrial engineering and strategic marketing, Chancellor Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State University, a Master of Business Administration from Washington State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Prior to his appointment at USC Upstate, Chancellor Harris held significant leadership roles at various institutions, including Morehouse School of Medicine, where he served as Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
