Dr. Esther Godfrey has been teaching at the university level since 1998 and joined the University of South Carolina Upstate faculty in 2008. She teaches classes in 19th-century British literature, women’s literature, and women’s and gender studies. She earned a Ph.D. in British literature at the University of Tennessee in 2006, and her first book, The January-May Marriage in Nineteenth-Century British Literature, was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2009. Dr. Godfrey has published on authors ranging from Charlotte Bronte to H. Rider Haggard and is currently working on her second book project on various types of problems in marriages in Victorian literature and society.
