Jonathan Green | DNP Major
For Jonathan Green, healthcare is more than a career—it’s a calling. As a Family Nurse Practitioner dedicated to serving vulnerable populations, he has spent his career breaking down barriers to quality healthcare. Now, as a student in USC Upstate’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Public and Community Health program, Jonathan is taking his passion to the next level.
Why the DNP?
Jonathan’s decision to pursue a DNP was fueled by his desire to drive meaningful change in healthcare.
“My passion for helping the impoverished and ensuring high-quality patient care led me to this program. I saw the DNP as a way to amplify my impact—whether by advancing nursing practice, integrating evidence-based care, or advocating for patients who need it most.”
At USC Upstate, Jonathan is gaining the skills and knowledge to lead improvements in the healthcare system, particularly for underserved communities.
Shaping the Future of Nursing
Jonathan envisions himself as more than a practitioner—he wants to be a leader, shaping the next generation of nursing professionals and improving the structures that deliver patient care.
“I want to be a pioneer in the nursing workforce, leading a paradigm shift that ensures optimal outcomes for all patients. Nursing must evolve, and I want to be part of that movement.”
His education at USC Upstate is equipping him with the expertise to advocate for systemic change, ensuring that healthcare is more inclusive, efficient, and patient-centered.
Lessons in Leadership
One of the most impactful courses Jonathan has taken so far is Organizational and Systems Leadership, which has reinforced the importance of collaboration in healthcare settings.
“To create real change, every member of the healthcare team must feel heard, valued, and engaged. This class deepened my understanding of how leadership can transform patient outcomes.”
These lessons are already shaping his work, strengthening his ability to lead teams and improve healthcare delivery in his clinical setting.
Balancing Work, Life, and Learning
Like many DNP students, Jonathan juggles a demanding career while pursuing his degree. The flexibility of USC Upstate’s online DNP program allows him to continue working with patients while advancing his education.
“This program requires discipline and time management, but it makes earning a DNP possible for working professionals. The key is staying organized, setting a study routine, and leaning on the support of family and fellow students.”
For Jonathan, the challenge is worth it—because the reward is shaping the future of nursing.
