Program Highlights
The Mary Black College of Nursing is one of the Southeast’s most highly regarded nursing institutions. Our faculty bring a wealth of health care experience to the classroom, and will guide you through the training needed to become a nurse. You’ll also be supported with preparation for the nursing exam at the end of our program.
Why USC Upstate
Nursing is a rigorous program, but our faculty and staff are dedicated to your success. We provide the mentorship and guidance you need as you progress from introductory coursework to upper-level training. Peer-led study groups help you learn outside the classroom. We also offer a dual degree in biology if you are interested in additional science training.
Real-world training
Clinical experience is a central part of our program. You’ll prepare to enter a medical setting with training in our state-of-the-art Simulation Center. Then as an upper-level student, you’ll put your training into practice at one of our regional medical centers. We also offer summer travel abroad opportunities where you can provide clinical care while experiencing life in another country.
Prepare for Success
Mary Black College of Nursing graduates achieved a 97% pass rate on the 2023 National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). 148 BSN graduates took the NCLEX, which is required to receive a nursing license. Of those, 143 passed the exam on their first attempt. This cohort represents the fourth-largest group of nursing graduates in the state.

In-demand career
Skilled nurses are in high demand throughout the state. Once you’ve passed your nursing exam and become licensed, you will find career opportunities with regional health care facilities, clinics, nursing homes, hospice centers, travel nursing, and more. Many of our students have been hired at the hospitals where they did their clinicals.
