The Upstate Crime Analysis Center (UCAC) housed at USC Upstate Greenville is a regional hub for training, collaboration, and research in crime analysis and evidence-based policing. We serve students, law enforcement professionals, and community stakeholders across South Carolina’s Upstate.

Support our mission to train the next generation of crime analysts and strengthen public safety with a one-time or recurring tax-deductible gift.

The UCAC serves as a training hub for crime analysis. Our online programs are designed to equip students with the tools and strategies needed to identify crime patterns, support evidence-based policing decisions, and begin an early career in this in-demand field.

Through our programs, students:

  • Gain hands-on experience with real crime data
  • Build connections with professionals in the field
  • Participate in internships and service-learning projects that directly benefit local law enforcement and community safety
  • Opportunity to sit for the Law Enforcement Analyst Foundational (LEAF) exam through the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA)

Microsoft Community Safety and Justice Reform Grant: With support from the Microsoft Community Safety and Justice Reform Initiative, the UCAC is partnering with SIMSI to advance community-centered crime prevention by developing free, evidence-based training, resources, and tools for students, agencies, and community stakeholders.

Free, Online Micro-Courses on Crime Analysis Topics: Courses created by UCAC Director, Breanna Haney, and other USC Upstate Criminal Justice faculty on topics such as career development for crime analysts, embedding analytics into agency operations, and a three-course series on crime analysis for police executives. Available through SIMSI’s Action Hub Learning Center, a free learning management system. Access the Action Hub Learning Center here

About the UCAC Director

Director Haney is an Instructor of Criminal Justice in the Department of Sociology, Criminal Justice and Women’s Studies and the Director of the Upstate Crime Analysis Center, where she teaches courses in both the crime analysis concentration and the professional certificate program. She also serves as Vice President of Communication on the Executive Board of the Carolinas Crime Analysis Association.

She brings applied field experience as a law enforcement analyst, having served as a Data Analytics Specialist with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, where she supported specialized units through tactical and investigative analysis. She has also held roles as an Intelligence Analyst and Background Research Specialist.

She earned her Master of Science in Criminal Justice, along with graduate certificates in Geographic Information Science & Technology and Crime Analysis, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
