Honoring a Spartan Spirit: Help Us Finish the Race
Years after a tragic accident cut short the lives of four promising student-athletes, their memory continues to inspire us. Josh Lee, one of those four, embodied the heart of a Spartan—an encouraging friend, a dedicated cross-country runner, and a future teacher and coach. His positivity was contagious, and he had a way of pushing others to believe in themselves with his simple yet powerful motto: “Just finish the race.”
Now, we invite you to be part of a special effort to honor Josh’s legacy in a lasting way.
We are raising funds to build a new Track and Field Complex at USC Upstate—a place where 80 athletes will train and compete, pushing themselves to reach their goals, just as Josh did. With your help, we can name this field in his honor, creating a home where his spirit of encouragement will continue to inspire future generations.
No matter the size of your gift, your contribution to the Track & Field Complex will help us “just finish the race” and build a space that celebrates both Josh’s memory and the commitment of our Spartan athletes. Together, we can create a lasting tribute that will impact students for years to come.
Will you join us in finishing this race?
The USC Upstate Track and Field Complex
Our proposed state-of-the-art track and field complex will be a premier facility designed to match the dedication and talent of our Division I athletes. With a total construction budget of $8.2 million, the University has committed $4 million toward the project, leaving a $4.2 million philanthropic goal to be met through community and individual support.
Your contribution matters. By joining our effort, you not only help us reach our fundraising goal but also demonstrate to corporate donors that this project has the strong backing of our region and alumni. Every gift shows the collective support for our Spartan athletes.
Key Features of the Complex:
- Nine-lane running track with a natural grass turf interior field
- Space for steeplechase, long jump, triple jump, high jump, and pole vault
- Areas for throwing events, including javelin, shot put, hammer, and discus
Located adjacent to the University Readiness Center on the north end of campus, this facility will provide a home for our 80 dedicated student-athletes to train, compete, and reach their personal best.
