FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS
All Upstate students, including those attending the Greenville campus or taking classes online, should complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year to determine eligibility for aid. The FAFSA opens October 1 each year, with the USC Upstate priority deadline set for March 1. The USC Upstate FAFSA school code is 006951. For additional information, visit our Financial Aid Office. Many employers in the Upstate offer tuition reimbursement; your human resources team can help you determine if your company is one of them. Contact our office for assistance.
Students should also review scholarships available through the University and from other sources (like employers and community organizations). There are several University scholarships that support students who might study through the Greenville Campus. One trick to finding them is to go to Foundation Scholarships and search for key words that reflect your status, like “non-traditional” or “adult.” A few that might apply to you are listed below. (Always be sure to confirm active scholarships and eligibility with the Financial Aid Office.)
Transfer Scholarships available to students who earned 60 semester hours of transferable credit from a two-year or technical college or an Associates of Arts or Associates of Science degree from an accredited college, with $2,000 for maximum 3.5 GPA and $1,000 for minimum 3.0 GPA.
Eb and Maggie Barnes Endowed Scholarship – established in memory of Dr. James “Eb” and Maggie Barnes, with $1,000 award given to a student who most closely meets the criteria of a non-traditional student and is enrolled in a degree-completion program at UCG at least part-time, with established financial need.
Adult & Non-Traditional Student Book Award – established in 2021 by an anonymous USC Upstate Academic Advisor for the adult and non-traditional student enrolled in at least 9 credit hours, with a minimum 2.5 GPA and expressed financial need. This award may be up to $200.
Billie Weiss-McAbee Endowed Scholarship – established to assist a full-time, non-traditional student, carrying 12 or more hours per semester and not be eligible for any state scholarships.
Edith Thrower Endowed Memorial Scholarship – established by Ms. Thrower’s family and friends to honor her life’s work in nursing. This $1,000 scholarship provides financial support to non-traditional nursing students who have demonstrated academic ability and financial need.
Frances Smith Endowed Nursing Scholarship – established to provide financial assistance to a full-time nursing student who has a financial need with a preference given to a non-traditional student.
James B. Greer Endowed Memorial Scholarship – established to provide financial assistance to non-traditional students with past education interrupted by full-time employment, military service, or family responsibilities with a 2.0 GPA and at least 30 completed credit hours.
