What is R.A.D?

R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) System is a national program that teaches women realistic self-defense tactics and techniques. The R.A.D. program begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defensive training. This is not a martial arts program. Nationally certified instructors provide students with information on physical and non-physical defense options, as well as insight into the mindset of an attacker. Women are taught to take an active role in their own self-defense and psychological well-being. R.A.D. is dedicated to teaching women defensive concepts and techniques against various types of assaults by utilizing easy, effective and proven self-defense tactics.

Why R.A.D?

  • It is the country’s largest and fastest-growing self-defense program for women and children with 7,000 certified instructors and 300,000 trained participants
  • R.A.D. is taught at more than 400 colleges/universities and police departments across the United States and Canada
  • Once a student has completed a R.A.D. program, their signed manual becomes a ticket for free lifetime return and practice with any R.A.D. instructor in the U.S.
  • It is the only self-defense program ever to be endorsed by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA)

The R.A.D. Class

The R.A.D.class consists of 9-hours of training that is usually taught over a period of three evening classes. The students must attend all classes to complete the course. Every student receives a manual for reference and practice. Once a student has completed an R.A.D. program, their signed manual becomes a ticket for free lifetime return and practice with any R.A.D. instructor in the U.S.

Participation does not require athletic ability. Women of all levels of ability, age, experience, and strength will be provided with techniques and information that can be effectively used from the first day of class.

The simulation component of the class is strictly voluntary and the students can still complete the class if they choose not to volunteer, but they must be present. The vast majority of women who perform the simulation leave with a feeling of empowerment.
