  • Heart disease is the leading cause of death in South Carolina.1
  • The percentage of adults with diabetes in South Carolina is 5th highest in the United States.2
  • Two-thirds of adults in South Carolina are overweight or obese, and two-thirds do not get the recommended amount of physical activity.2,3
  • Regular participation in physical activity reduces the risk of many of the most common diseases in South Carolina and the US, including diabetes and cardiovascular disease, as well as improving sleep, cognitive function, and mental health.

Our Goals:

  • Make physical activity a part of daily campus culture for students, staff, and faculty
  • Assess physical activity as a vital sign of health
  • Improve health and wellness literacy for all members of the campus community to promote healthy behaviors that can last a lifetime.
  • Connect university practitioners to reduce barriers to physical activity and enhance participation.
  • Connect with community partners to promote physical activity and overall health and wellness of the campus community.
